recently I have tried out an idea, which was aimed to improve the understanding the relevance connected with the book project. I details: I have tried to establish a habit of reading short stories at the end of every lesson. However, I observed, that pupils are either checking every word, they do not understand, and soon become demotivated, while others do not read at all, but just guess the content from pictures. To show them, how detailed the understanding should be, I asked two students to read the same story. Then I copied the story to the class and asked the first two to leave the room. Then I asked first person to enter the class and recall the story in mother tongue. The same with the second person.
I think, the idea that it might be judged by others, what they have to say, has given them a feeling, what does it mean to understand the story.
BTW. The idea of just let the children read, what they have choosen, was just excellent.
