Unfortunately there are no comments to answer, but I often speak to my colleagues about the motivation topic, as well as to the class teachers. The teachers in lower classes do not have much problem with motivation – the children are generally interested in everything. The English teacher, who teaches in the classes 6-8 like me, works with books, poems and games like for exaples “mafia”. It works good.
Motivation is the starting impulse to awaken the will inside a pupil to want to learn. If a student can connect to a topic, or sees some perspective in learning a language, the motivation is there. However, it is not always easy.
Last week we were talking about the history of the USA in 1800s…. there was one point when I wanted to explain the effect of expanding settlements of white people on the Native Americans’ land and connected it to some aspects of the present world. At this point my students could understand much easier the outcomes and what was happening at that time. I had really goosebumps when it was happening. It was a beautiful experience.
Aspects of motivation – there needs to a connection to the topic, also a good relationship between the pupil and a teacher is one aspect of motivation too.
